PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – 10 AUGUST 2026 – Boxing South Africa (BSA) proudly celebrates a historic double at the 2026 gsport Awards, with two women from the boxing community receiving major honours.
Boxing manager Colleen McAusland was named Telkom Woman of the Year, while reigning South African Flyweight Champion Simangele “Smash” Hadebe was named African Woman in Sport.
BSA Women in Boxing Committee Chairperson Rina Subotzky congratulated both women, describing their recognition as a significant achievement for South African boxing and a powerful reflection of the growing impact of women in the sport.
“These accolades are a victory for every woman who dares to dream, compete and lead in boxing,” said Subotzky.
BSA Chairperson Ayanda Khumalo said the recognition demonstrates that boxing extends beyond competition, providing a platform for empowerment, equality and positive social change.
The celebrations continue on 22 August 2026, when Hadebe faces Eastern Cape’s Owethu Rhula for the vacant World Flyweight Title at GrandWest Casino in Cape Town. The event, Fight Like a Woman, will feature five title fights contested by female boxers.
BSA congratulates McAusland and Hadebe on their outstanding achievements and calls on South Africans to continue supporting and celebrating women in boxing.
