Bloemfontein – Boxing South Africa (BSA) has successfully concluded its National Ring Officials Seminar, held from 17 to 19 July 2026 at the Sapphire Hotel in Bloemfontein.
The three-day seminar brought together ring officials from all nine provinces for the first national gathering since 2017, focusing on improving officiating standards, strengthening governance and advancing the development of ring officials across South Africa.
A key milestone of the seminar was the official launch of the Association of Ring Officials, with delegates adopting the Association’s Constitution and electing its inaugural National Executive Committee. Veteran ring official Mr Thabo Spampool was elected as National Chairperson.
Delegates also approved the reintroduction of a structured grading system for ring officials, discussed proposed amendments to the Boxing Regulations of 2004 and adopted a strengthened Code of Conduct to promote professionalism and integrity.
The seminar further explored initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of ring officials, including travel and accommodation support, occupational insurance and enhanced licensing benefits.
Boxing South Africa CEO Mr Tsholofelo Lejaka thanked all ring officials, provincial managers, stakeholders and the Technical Committee for their contribution to the seminar’s success.
“This seminar marks an important milestone for South African boxing. While we’ve laid a solid foundation for meaningful reform, the real work begins now as we continue raising the standard of officiating across the country.”
Following the seminar, Boxing South Africa and the newly elected National Executive Committee will begin implementing the resolutions adopted over the three days.
