Three boxing trailblazers who have dedicated themselves to using boxing as a tool for empowerment have been named finalists in this year’s GSport Awards, earning recognition for their achievements both inside and outside the ring.
The nominations celebrate individuals who have excelled in the sport while using boxing to uplift communities, champion equality and create meaningful social change.
Colleen McAusland has been shortlisted in the Woman in Sport category for her longstanding commitment to developing women’s boxing and expanding opportunities for female athletes in the Fourways area and surrounds.
Beyond producing champions, McAusland has focused on helping vulnerable and abused girls rebuild their confidence through the sport.
“Boxing gave these girls more than confidence; it gave them the courage to be heard. That’s why I’ll always believe this sport changes lives.”
According to the nomination, her work helped young survivors find the confidence to testify against a serial child sex offender, contributing to the offender receiving a 90-year prison sentence.
