Bonginkosi Nhlapho was crowned a new WBF Africa champion when he won via majority points decision against Nelson Mbele in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Event City, Middleburg, Mpumalanga, on Saturday, 07 June 2025, a tournament put together by Rise Boxing Promotion.
It was the first tournament this year to be hosted ‘Land of the Rising Sun,” and the crowd was not disappointed with top boxing on display.
On the supporting act, Vuyo Maphosa won via TKO and became new Mpumalanga Junior Lightweight Provincial Champion in the seventh round when Magubane’s corner failed to answer the bell before the start of round eight.
Magubane failed to make the weight during Weigh In after two attempts while his opponent made it clean, at 57, 50kg.
Junior Bantamweight
Blessing Shongwe vs Mthobisi Nkosi
The bout was declared technical draw due to accidental headbutt before the end of the third round, 2,45. Nkosi was overweight.
Super Middleweight
Khayeluthu Gabuza vs Cyril Mulweli
Gabuza won via majority points decision.
Lightweight
Sacha Tesner vs Thuso Khorombi (Female Bout)
Gauteng’s Tesner won via TKO in the second-round stoppage time; 50 seconds.
Catchweight
Alima Nkosi vs Carolina Rabani (Female Bout)
Alima fighting in front of her home crowd won via majority points decision.
Welterweight
Jimmy Tsheshela vs Anao Netshizane
Anao Netshizane from Limpopo won via TKO in the first round.
In KZN, Lwando ‘Throw More Bricks’ Mgambi won via TKO in the fifth round against Sechaba Zuma in what was an entertaining evening of boxing hosted by Hle-Jobe Boxing Promotion at Escourt Town Hall, on Saturday 07 June 2025.
Mgambi had failed to make the weight during Weigh In ahead of the fight. His weight was officially recorded as 52,65kg. The title was lost on scale but 3did not stop the boxers giving the fans value for money as Mgambi emerged victorious, to keep his unbeaten record intact. Mgambi took his record to eight wins, 0 losses (3 stoppages). The title is now Vacant.
It remains to be seen whether Mgambi will remain at junior bantam and try to recapture his title, or he will move to a higher division.
In the Supporting Main Bout, Junior feather Mxolisi Zuma won via KO against Malawian, Clifford Antafu. Zuma’s record now is now ten wins, (10 Kos) and 0 losses.
Catchweight
Nkosinathi Sibiya won KO, sixth round against Sihle Shange. Shange is now four wins (3 Kos), and two losses.
Mini flyweight
Nhlakanipho Kunene won via points against Mthobile Quvile. Kunene’s record now stands at six wins (4Kos), 0 losses.
Juniorflyweight
Mncedisi Duze won via TKO, first round against Rofhiwa Maphupha in a six rounder.
Catchweight
Bilal Johnson won via TKO, round one against Njabulo Bhekiswayo.
Bantamweight (Female)
Precious Msibi won on points via Nomfundo Xaba. Msibi’s record is now on two wins and one loss.
Flyweight
Siyanda Makhoba won via points against Mbongwa Makhubu. Makhoba’s record now stands at five wins (2Kos), 0 losses.
