BOXING SOUTH AFRICA HAILS RESOUNDING SUCCESS OF DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT IN PORT ALFRED

PORT ALFRED – Boxing South Africa (BSA) extends its hearty congratulations to Larenan Promotions and the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture for delivering an exceptionally successful development tournament at the Titi Jonas Community Hall in Port Alfred this past weekend.

The event was a celebration of the talent pipeline in the region, drawing enthusiastic crowds from Port Alfred and the surrounding areas who came out in full force to support the next generation of pugilists. The atmosphere was electric, underscoring the Eastern Cape’s unwavering passion for the Sweet Science.

In the highly anticipated main bout, fight fans were treated to a scintillating clash for the vacant EC Featherweight title. Avuyile Mpikwa of Duncan Village delivered a career-defining performance, stopping Siphenathi Nobanda of Amalinda via a sixth-round TKO to be crowned the new Eastern Cape Featherweight Champion.

The undercard provided non-stop action, highlighted by the emergence of future stars. In a complete breakdown of the evening’s results:

Boxing South Africa would like to specifically commend the new promotional outfit led by Mr. Chris Nomtoto for orchestrating such a resounding tournament. His team’s professionalism and dedication to the grassroots level are exactly what the sport needs to thrive.

Tournaments of this nature are the bedrock of South African boxing. They are the primary vehicle to unleash raw talent, provide competitive exposure, and guide young athletes on their way to stardom. BSA calls upon the corporate sector to come on board and support more initiatives like these. Investing in development tournaments is an investment in the future champions who will carry the nation’s flag high.
