BOXING SOUTH AFRICA SALUTES A TRUE RING GENERAL – MR NORMAN “BRO KNOX” HLABANE AWARDED THE ORDER OF IKHAMANGA IN SILVER

PRETORIA – Boxing South Africa joins the nation in celebrating one of our own, Mr Norman Hlabane, known affectionately in the sweet science as Bro Knox – who was conferred with the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver by His Excellency President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa on 19 May 2026.

In a glittering ceremony that honoured outstanding contributors to sport and the arts, Bro Knox stood tall among giants, his decades of sacrifice, sweat, and silent mentorship finally receiving the national acclaim they have long deserved.

To know Bro Knox is to understand the very heartbeat of South African boxing. A pugilist of rare insight and unshakeable resolve, he did not merely participate in the sport, he helped forge its modern legacy. From the corner to the canvas, from township gyms to the world’s grandest stages, his fingerprints are on some of the most seismic moments in local boxing history.

He was the steady hand in the corner of Dingaan Thobela when “The Rose of Soweto” was a world champion. He guided Lehlohonolo “Hands of Stone” Ledwaba through seven successful defences of the IBF super bantamweight title, a reign of dominance that still echoes in record books. He mentored and managed the charismatic Ditau “Diarora” Molefyane, a former WBF world champion, and sharpened the weapons of Jan Bergman, David Potsane, one of South Africa’s finest champions. Even now, he has produced a National Champion in Khaya Busakwe.

These are not merely fighters. They are legends. And behind every legend stands a man like Norman Hlabane.

Boxing South Africa salutes you, Bro Knox. You have given more to the ring than titles and tape, you have given it soul. May this silver honour gleam as brightly as the champions you moulded, and may your legacy continue to inspire generations of fighters who dare to dream.

End.
