BOXING SA SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES SPARRING SESSION IN MDANTSANE AS 2026 PROMISES TO BE A LANDMARK YEAR
The final leg of sparring for open boxing boxers was successfully held on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at the NU10 Community Hall in Mdantsane. The session marked a significant milestone in Boxing SA’s efforts to rejuvenate the sport and unearth raw talent from the grassroots level.
With the 2026 boxing calendar shaping up to be exceptionally busy, the organisation is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that boxers are ring-ready and professionally compliant. The quality on display during these sessions indicates that South African boxing is poised for a stellar year.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Provincial Manager, Mr Phakamile Jacobs, expressed his satisfaction with the proceedings. “The sparring went smooth and peaceful. We had 2 doctors and one ambulance present on site, and all health and safety measures were on point. It was a professional setup befitting the talent we witnessed today,” said Jacobs.
The numbers from the day were particularly impressive.
Out of 59 boxers registered at the venue, an astounding 47 boxers turned professional. Among them were three female boxers, signaling positive growth in the women’s side of the sport. However, the standout highlight was the presence of nine South African amature champions making the transition to the professional ranks.
Boxing SA extends its congratulations to all the boxers who took this significant step in their careers.
URGENT CALL TO MANAGERS:
In order to capitalise on this momentum, Boxing SA strongly encourages managers and trainers to fast-track the registration of these newly turned professional boxers. All documentation must be submitted before the 31 March 2026 deadline to ensure that the boxers are eligible to participate in the jam-packed schedule ahead.
Let’s work together to keep the talent pipeline flowing and ensure that 2026 becomes a year of opportunity for all.
